Kamsi TCharles Presents S/S19 Collection Titled Church Science

$

Nigerian fashion designer Kamsi TCharles lingers his love affair with African prints, traditional patterns and textiles in his Spring Summer 2019 men’s collection titled “Church Science.”
The collection references the manner with which the western world has long been a hub of influence for religion, ethics and fashionable trends in Africa, and is often perceived as the adoption of the elements of the dominant culture by members of the minority culture.
“Church Science collection, (the designer explained), is about how the Europeans made us disregard our beliefs, values and dress cultures. How today we (Africans) dress like the western world, sound like them and feel more religious than they are without corresponding development because we have failed to realize that religion is more of an art than science.”
The outstanding designs from the collection appeals to those willing to take a risk with their personal sense of style, and not only echo with Africans but cause a stir with international fashion observers too.
Auspiciously, today, Africa is ever more pertinent to the fashion industry globally. The western world is not only looking to it as a sourcing destination but also as a source of inspiration.

Olakanye Modupe is a young designer from Nigeria who despite all odds went all out to showcase her new crochet collection at the Nigerian Student Fashion And Design Week 2018, Nigeria’s leading fashion event platform for discovering raw fashion talents and industry newcomers, and to her biggest surprise she won the Womenswear designer award.

Fashion

Fashion

The graduate of Biology Education from Adeyemi College of Education completed her national youth service program few days ago in Kaduna State and at some point she almost gave up the idea of showcasing due to some challenges she has been facing as a youth corper far away North.

Fashion

Fashion

Fashion

Fashion designing started for her while she was in secondary school,It all started when I was depressed in my secondary school days, I’m the introvert type. It got to a point I wanted to end my life but God saved me through crocheting. I’d crochet some little projects then just to keep me from idleness and negative thoughts. Gradually I realized I wanted to be unique and creative in making use of crochet, so I developed myself in it and took it to the next level” she said.

Modupe heard about the Nigerian Student Fashion & Design Week three years ago while she was searching online for some outstanding fashion weeks in Nigeria where she could showcase her designs. She was very impressed and inspired with the NSFDW project and how various designers have risen through the platform, so she decided to take her time to perfect her skills before coming out.

During the Nigerian Student Fashion & Design Week showcase, she gave her collection all she could, just because she wanted to make a statement through crochets but didn’t expect to win any prize.

To her It was such a wonderful experience, showcasing alongside outstanding young designers who have come from different parts of the country. “I was so glad people appreciated my kind of fashion, it was such a huge moment for me and memory I’ll cherishforever”, She said.

To her, “the Nigeria Fashion Industry is a massive and competitive one. It’s very challenging and takes a lot of hardworking, good content, uniqueness to mention a few to stand out. Electricity is one of the major factor affecting this industry. In addition, the government are doing not so well in supporting emerging designers”. She also believes that financial support is one of her major challenges while down pricing is another huge challenge she faces as an emerging designer.

We look forward to seeing great achievements from the Modhan brand.

The One Ingredient That Can Make Your Sweaty Clothes Less Offensive

If you are the type that visits the gym regularly, live in the tropics or you simply sweat a lot, you are definitely not a stranger to the offensive smell your sweaty clothes give off after a long day.

You however shouldn’t sweat it! You probably have this ingredient in your pantry right now. It’s time to get that offensive smell out of your spandex for good. Fortunately for you and your gym buddies!, just one ingredient can take your workout clothes from smelling funky to fresh in no time.

Your Sweaty Clothes can be notoriously tough to clean, but laundry experts believe that a simple trick can get you out of this laundry quandary.

Experts recommends soaking the garments in a mix of one part distilled white vinegar to four parts cold water immediately after your workout or a sweaty day at work. Baking soda could also do the trick, in case you don’t have vinegar sitting in your cupboard.

Furthermore, you can also “wash with a heavy duty detergent that contains enough enzymes to the oily body soil that your sweaty day has left on your clothes. Tide and Persil are your best bet. Experts also recommend avoiding fabric softener and dryers, as both could shrink or damage your favourite gym attire.

If you don’t have enough time to wash your sweaty workout clothes immediately, it’s totally OK to wait a few days. But you should however avoid re-wearing them, since bacteria tends to build up after multiple wears.

If you are one of those that think hot water is the tried-and-true trick to getting odours out of your workout gear and smelly clothes, you may have to think again.

Although the hot water setting can kill odour-causing bacteria, it also has the potential of damaging synthetic fabrics, so be sure to double check the care instructions on each garment.

The One Sneaky Trick That Can Extend The Life Of Your Sports bra

$
0

If you are an avid gym person, you know how annoying it can be to constantly change your sports bra but there is one easy tip that can help extend the life. Despite the fact that bras have basically become a fixture of the everyday lives of women for almost a hundred years, a lot of women still happen to be making a number of bra mistakes.

Statistically, over 70 percent of women wear the wrong bra size, and even more believe some crazy and unfounded myths about their underwear. As it turns out, we know even less about sports bras—and here’s why.

The sports bra is one of the types of bras you need in your wardrobe, but there is a chance you are not replacing them enough, or you replace them too soon (in a matter of weeks). What gives?

Because you tend to be moving (and yes, sweating) in your sports bras, this piece of clothing experiences a little more wear and tear than the average undergarment. More so, your sweat can cause the fabric and elastic to break down more quickly—even with the right care and cleaning.

As a result, sports bras need to be replaced every six to 12 months. Your bra should never celebrate a birthday, or even stay longer.

However, that can get expensive. The solution to this is to maximize the life of your sports bra, and there’s an easy rule of thumb to this. Keep at least three in your rotation. And if you’re hitting the gym multiple times per week, take note of indications that it may be time for a replacement.

A stretched band or straps, faded tags, spots that cause your skin to chafe, or a musky smell (even after being laundered) could be a sign that you need to buy a new bra.

What Your Choice Of Shoes Say About Your Personality

$

0

What kind of personality do you have? Are you a go-getter, an attention-seeker, or a loyal friend? Fashion experts believe that they can determine your kind of person just by looking at your footwear.

Women in flashy stilettos work hard and have excellent taste
Women who wear flashy stilettos like Jimmy Choos and Christian Louboutins may seem materialistic, but these women are actually incredibly hardworking. They have major drive, determination, and a standout work ethic. They are very willing, and very open to possibilities.

They also really love and value beauty, whether it be in things, people, or how she lives. Those things don’t have to be expensive, it just has to be pleasing to the eye.

High-heeled boot wearers take charge
In the event of a crisis, people who love wearing high-heeled boots will always be the one to take control of the situation. They’re quick on their feet and able to make clear, rational decisions. The high-heeled boot is a take-charge kind of person, they are assertive and love being center stage.

Running shoe wearers are goal-oriented
If you’re someone who enjoys fitness challenges, keen about making serious changes, and has been known to go the extra mile with a label maker, experts believe that you will prefer running shoes. People who love running shoes are confident, goal-oriented, and very organized.

Clog wearers are nurturing
Would your friends describe you as down to earth? Are you happiest on a hike or watching the sun rise? If so, chances are you’re the clog type. The clog is an open spirit, and very outdoorsy. They love nature and the whole regenerative effect of being outdoors.

A lot of nurses, healthcare professionals, chefs, and people that work in kitchens wear clogs. That doesn’t seem like an accident, because these people have a very nurturing, generous, and loving spirit.

Flats lovers are behind-the-scenes leaders
If you’re someone who always turns to flats, chances are you love to work your butt off behind the scenes to ensure there’s always a perfectly finished product. You’re also humble enough not to require any attention or recognition for your efforts. Flat-wearers are focused, very modest, and generous.

Six Tricks That Can Make Your Perfume Last Longer On You

$
0
0

You spritz your fragrance on in the morning, and less than an hour later the scent is gone and you’re wondering whether it is because you are using a cheap perfume. Knowing the tricks to employ could help keep the scent for longer.

Add to your clothes
While the perfume on your skin might fade too fast, it could last long enough to overstay its welcome on clothes. You could always do a little on clothes, but it’s hard to wash off actually if the perfume is strong. You can add a little to a scarf or a shirt you don’t wear much if you want maximum impact all day.

Apply to your pulse points
When adding a spray, stick to pulse points like your wrists, neck, and behind your knees. They radiate a little more heat, and they’re a nice spot to bounce around the smell a bit.

Start with unscented lotion
Lotion acts as a bind to help the perfume stick to your skin, so rub a bit in to the spot you’ll be applying the fragrance. Your skin is not necessarily the best clinger for perfume. Skin is kind of oily and doesn’t absorb. Choose an unscented moisturizer to keep from combining smells, giving all the attention to your perfume.

Opt for a strong base note
Different scents have different lifespans. Citruses have the tendency to fade the fastest because their molecules are so light, while floral and spices will take longer to leave. Scents that stick around longest are the ones commonly used as base notes, like vanilla, musk, and wood.

Layer scents strategically
Do you want a citrus-based perfume, but don’t want to be stuck reapplying it all day? Layer it with another fragrance with a strong base to extend the life of your scent. You can combine those to make it last longer.

Let your hair down
Your hair holds a scent better than your skin does. If you have a long or medium cut, spritz your perfume onto the ends of your tresses. It is a waft nicer on the ends because the hair moves a little there.

Five Makeup Products Every Woman Should Have In Her Work Desk

0

Every woman knows the struggle to keep the same beautiful face all day, and that is why there are some essential makeup products that you should always have in your work desk for touch up. Here are the products you’ll need for a quick office touch-up.

Makeup remover swabs
So you’ve just gotten back from lunch break and a quick look in the bathroom mirror indicates that your eyeliner and mascara have left their ideal positions and travelled halfway down your face.

Keep a makeup remover swab or stick in your desk for moments like these. It will help you easily eliminate any residue without having to lift all of the makeup on your face.

Red lipstick
A bright red lip is a staple and is arguably the best way to look alive on tired mornings. It can also help to add glam to your office makeup before happy hour.

Concealer
You should have a small tube of concealer in your work desk to help cover any blemishes that might reappear during the day. If you have got plans after work, use it to touch up the area under your eyes and around your nose and lips. An even tone on your face will make the rest of your features pop.

Blush
If your cheeks lack a natural flush, one of the products you should have on hand is the blush. Reapply midday to keep your skin looking fresh. If you don’t have blush, dab a bit of red or pink lipstick onto your pointer fingers and blend it into the apples of your cheeks for a quick fix.

Powder compact
A powder foundation is essential as it can help you remove shine and even out your skin tone. Buy a compact so you can leave your brushes and sponges at home.

These Four Tricks Will Make Your Makeup Last All Day Long

$
0
0

Making your makeup last all day is a struggle for a lot of women because they are not aware of the tricks they can employ to make it stay all day. Here are four tricks that can make your makeup last all day long.

Find the right mascara
Mascaras tend to be personal, and finding the right formula for you will help you get a lasting wear. People with watery eyes should opt for waterproof, but other than that, it’s trial and error. Get samples sizes from your favourite makeup counter and try a few to find the perfect one that works for you.

To avoid ruining your makeup before you’re even done applying, avoid getting mascara transfer on your eyelids. Experts believe the best way to avoid this is starting with bottom lashes and letting them dry before adding product to the top.

Pick the right eye primer
You may have heard concealer is a good substitute for eye primer, but some experts have said that is not the case. Concealer is usually creamy in consistency, which is more emollient. If you’re using it on the eyelid, it can cause creasing and cause eye shadow to not blend as well.

Experts believe the best results come from a product specifically designed to prime eyes. For people with oily skin, it is recommended that you layer Urban Decay Primer Potion with Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot before shadow for an even better guard against oil.

Choose waterproof eyeliner
For a long-lasting liner, opt for a waterproof formula, or use a regular one and go over it with a powder of the same colour to set it. If your eyes start to get moist, put a bit of powder underneath to keep a runny mess from forming.

Or skip the eyeliner
If you always have a a runny eyeliner, sometimes the best thing to do is to stop working against nature. If someone’s eye is waterlogged, just skip it. Make use of waterproof mascara to accentuate the lashes.

Five Makeup Tricks That Can Make You Look Like You Had A Professional Touch

$

Following the right routine can help to keep your makeup from becoming a mess by lunchtime and have people seeing you as a professional.

Start with a good base
Preparing your skin before you apply makeup is important. Start by washing your face so it’s sparkling clean, then apply a quick face mask—before applying moisturizer. The skin is plump, it’s moisturized, and it’s even-toned. This will help reduce the amount of foundation that you will normally put on.

Prime your face
Even if you’re using a product with built-in primer or tinted moisturizer, starting with a primer will help to even out the texture of your skin and keep your makeup in place. Putting primer down first gives an additional layer of something to hold on to.

Choose one that matches your skin type: a smoothing one for large pores or fine lines, a mattifying one for oily faces, or a hydrating one for dry skin.

Apply with a brush
No matter how tempted you are to use your fingers to apply foundation, never ignore your brushes as it is meant to be a hands-off process if you want your look to stay. Otherwise the oil from your fingers could transfer to your face, and you’ll use more product than you need.

Brushes apply the product evenly, which is one of the reasons why your makeup stays longer. You aren’t having a thicker layer on one side vs. thinner on the other. You’ll have consistency with how the natural oils of your face mix with the product.

Apply in layers
Use a light hand to apply powder blushes and bronzers. Sweep it lightly and layer it on, while blending it in. Smudging away any harsh lines will make it less obvious if your makeup does start to melt away.

Prep your eyes
An eye cream will help get rid of dark circles and leave you ready for concealer. It really smooths out the skin. However, you should only apply under your eye—if you put it on your eyelids, the moisture will cause your eyeshadow to slip into your creases.

Five Beauty Products You Should Always Have With You While On The Move

Every woman should have certain beauty products in their handbags as it is one of the surest ways to keep the perfect look all day long. Here are five beauty products every woman should have on her while on the move.

Blotting sheets
A quality blotting sheet will remove sweat and oil without ruining your face makeup. Despite the fact that the handy blotting sheets won’t do much to stop the production of oil from its source, they are however a great way to matte your face without packing on pounds of powder.

Emergency essentials
there is a pertinent need for you to have Travel-sized hygiene and grooming products such as deodorant, safety pins, a mini lint roller, hair elastics, a nail file, hand lotion, antibacterial, and tampons in your spacious work bag or locked somewhere in your desk drawer at the office.

The good thing about having them handy is that they can come to the rescue for you or your co-workers when an unexpected malfunction occurs.

Spring water facial mist
Although facial mists are relatively new on the beauty scene, they offer a shortcut to radiant skin. You can pick up a spring water spray and spritz it on your face as soon as you have a feeling that the air in your office is beginning to dry out your skin. For glowing skin from the outside in, stay hydrated.

Roll-on perfume
Having a travel-sized roll-on perfume with you allows you to refresh your fragrance without wasting valuable space in your bag or office drawer.

Dry shampoo
you can add volume and eliminate oil from your hair with a travel-size bottle of dry shampoo. It is a magical staple which can get you ready for happy-hour in no time. If you don’t want to spend money on a can, you can simply try out baby powder for a low-cost alternative that delivers the same effect.

OKUNOREN Launches New Easy-Breezy “Linen” Collection

Okunoren’s Linen Collection infuses hints of old-world charm into essential pieces created for the discerning modern man.

The collection is composed of transitional pieces which are all crafted in linen, a cloth known to add a fresh and relaxed twist to formal tailoring. This cloth is worn predominantly in tropical climes; from Sao Paolo to Lagos, Havana to Miami; where the average temperature is 28-30 degrees centigrade.

“While maintaining our signature sartorial elegance, we have created a collection that celebrates the distinctive nature of Lagos, it invokes our nostalgic yearnings for simpler times, sandy beaches, calm lazy waves and carefree days,” said Creative Director, Taiwo Okunoren.

A nod to the uniquely Nigerian inspiration of the brand, Okunoren repurposes traditional Yoruba instruments as exciting accents to the collection— on brown linen shirts, cowries feature as buttons fused with Sanyan aso-oke trimmings; Opele beads gleam off-white shirts, big patch pockets feature on oversized long-sleeved shirts paired with the military patch pockets on vibrant blue trousers.

Nestled within the collection are iconic Okunoren pieces which have been reissued in this collection.

“We have reintroduced our signature raffia drawstrings on the trousers and shorts, also the bishop-collars are back,” said Jackie Nwadison, Okunoren’s Head of Footwear. “These pieces are beautifully complimented with our footwear collection which includes the Malo sandals, Rabat half-shoes, the bestselling Ilase thong slippers and brown Egungun slippers,” she added.

“The relaxed nature of the collection is a nice juxtaposition with the bustle of our vibrant city and we are pleased to be able to offer a body of work that captures the essence of Lagos and showcases it to the world,” said Taiwo Okunoren.

The Linen Collection is impressively versatile and can be worn on a number of occasions all year round. The design house has utilized its usual hand-sewn, bespoke techniques on these items in line with the extraordinary standard of craftsmanship inherent with the brand.

Each piece is made solely by hand in Ota, Ogun State and the linens are sourced mainly from Italy and India.
