And I must add that all fabrics are locally sourced and so are the hands used in piecing them together. It is hundred percent Nigerian”

Five Shoe Mistakes That Can Cause Problems For Your Feet

$
0
0

You may be making a number of shoe mistakes by simply wearing one that fits but you should wear it only if it’s the right size, has enough support, and it’s not worn out.

You buy shoes online
In the same way that shoes that are too narrow can pinch your toes, shoes that are too big or too small can also alter the way you walk and move. As such, the size of the shoes you wear matters.

And while many people tend to purchase their shoes online, some doctors don’t recommend it, particularly if you’ve never tried on the shoe you’re buying before.

Checking the fit of the shoe before you purchase a pair allows you to experience its feel, to make sure that you have the right size and to avoid spending money on a pair of shoes that will be too uncomfortable to wear.

You try on shoes in the morning instead of later in the day
Before you head off to a store to purchase a shoe, it is important to ensure that you do so at the right time of the day.

As a result of the way your blood circulates throughout your body, the longer you’re awake and standing, the more blood that will pool in the lower part of your body and in your feet, making them swell slightly.

As such, it is important to try on shoes during the middle of the day or later, when your feet have already swollen a little bit, so you can account for the slight difference in size.

The most common mistake there is, is to try shoes on over the weekend, and to do it first thing in the morning when you do your errands. Buying shoes early in the day means you will end up getting a pair that is too tight and constrictive.

You try shoes on too quickly
Just as there’s a proper time of day to try on shoes, there’s also a time frame to keep them on. It’s important to try them on standing up, as your foot will slide forward as soon as you do, potentially changing the feel of the shoe.

Even after standing up, be sure to spend five or 10 minutes walking around or standing in the shoes. Make sure they feel comfortable and healthy for your feet. It is also important to have a store employee assess the fit of the shoe through checking the positioning of your toes.

You definitely want enough width in the shoe for all of your toes to sit comfortably, and enough length for your longest toe (even if that’s your second toe) to be able to stretch out.

You Fail To Replace Shoes With Worn-down Heels
Have you ever noticed that one side of the bottom of your sneaker’s heel can be more worn-down than the other after using your shoes for a couple of months. It is actually a normal phenomenon.

Your heel, positioned directly below your body, supports all of your weight. While we all walk slightly differently, some people will actually lean more on one side of the shoe than the other.

That however doesn’t make it healthy for your foot and ankle to be put in this imbalanced position in the long term. While some people may look at the sneaker and say, ‘Well, it’s new,’ others will say, ‘Look at the heel’. You’re no longer standing normally, so you have to replace it.

Failing To Replace Your Running Shoes
The simple truth is that you can run 100 miles in each pair of running shoes before they should be replaced. Living by this rule means that if you run five miles; four or five times a week, you would have to replace your shoes almost every month.

This would most likely mean that it is an expensive shoe replacement habit, but it’s an important one to keep, even if you replace your shoes slightly less often.

After too much mileage, the sole of your running shoe and the cushioning below your foot can wear down, decreasing the amount of padding your feet get from your shoes as they pound the pavement.

If you’re a runner, it is best to pay attention to any pain you may feel in your feet, ankles, knee and hip joints; it may be a result of overused running shoes.

Five Wedding Dress codes Explained!

$
0
0

Are you unsure of how to dress for a daytime, afternoon, or evening wedding that you just got an invite to? Here are five common wedding dress codes explained.

Resort formal
Just because the wedding will be held on or near a beach doesn’t mean wearing a fancy cover-up or flip-flops are appropriate for the event. A summer dress or colourful cocktail dress are both great options for ladies, and a linen suit or khakis and a button-down shirt for the guys will be comfortable and stylish.

You should have it at the back of your mind that you may likely be on the sand, so wear fancy flat sandals since it will be nearly impossible to walk in high heels.

A morning formal wedding
If your friends (the engaged couple) got inspired by Prince William and Princess Kate (Middleton), who had a formal wedding in the morning, there’s a strict dress code for guests to follow.

The men can wear a cutaway coat with tails, a vest, and pin-striped pants with a top hat-optional. Another option is a morning suit, an all-gray version of the cutaway coat, pants and tails, or a dark gray or black suit.

Women shouldn’t wear a floor-length dress before the evening, but a tea-length dress, coloured pantsuit, or alternatively, a skirt and top – which are quite formal for a wedding held early in the day.

An afternoon wedding
if you are a guest to an afternoon wedding, it is best to look to the venue for clues on the dress code. If it’s an outside venue, it’s most appropriate to wear a day dress such as floral chiffon print or a long, flowing maxi gown.

If indoors, a short cocktail dress is appropriate, as is a little black dress that can be jazzed up with fun accessories. Men can leave the tuxedos at home, as they generally are not worn before 6 p.m.

Outdoor ceremony
For an outdoor ceremony, it’s totally acceptable for ladies to wear a jacket that complements their attires. Ladies can never go wrong with a shawl or pashmina.

If it’s raining on the wedding day, raincoats are certainly acceptable for both ladies and gentlemen. You can also carry a classy umbrella that is oversize and a solid colour: white, black, navy, or beige.

Dressy casual
if the wedding invitation reads “dressy casual” or “semi formal,” it’s the time of day that will help dictate your outfit for the wedding. A cocktail dress or a dressy long skirt and top can be worn in a lighter colour; and this works for a daytime wedding, while the same in a dark shade is appropriate for an evening affair.

A man should wear a suit with tie, and depending on the season a lighter fabric and colour in warm weather, and a darker, heavier fabric in cooler weather. A floor-length evening gown should be avoided.

Dressy casual is a form of attire that is a notch above casual wear. Dress slacks and sports coat/blazer for men and blouse and slacks/skirt or short dresses for ladies.

Here Are Seven Ways You Can Transform Your Old Shirt Into New Styles

$

We all have one or two old shirts that hold sentimental value and we just can’t simply find a good reason to give them up, despite never wearing them. Well, you have another reason not to give them up as we offer seven ways you can transform that old shirt of yours into new styles that will basically render them unrecognizable to the untrained eye.

Whether you’re looking to do basic alterations, like adding subtle details or creating a do-it-yourself tote, or something slightly more intricate, like sizing up your go-to work blouse, the simple steps below will help guide even the novice sewer through to the other side.

Making Headbands Out of Shirts
Create a no-sew headband and make a Shannon knot to help symbolise a balanced creativity–fitting headband. The good part of this creativity project is that your old shirt is put to good use.

Transform a Plain Shirt Into a Trendy Swing Top
To make a trendy swing top, look for a button-down shirt with a cute gingham pattern either in your closet or at a nearby thrift shop.

Make a Lace-Up Sweatshirt
All you need is a pair of scissors, a hammer, a few eyelets and some pretty lace or ribbon to transform your comfy crew neck sweatshirt into something more eye-catching.

Turn a Crew Neck T-Shirt Into a V-Neck
You can transform your old crew neck tee into a more flattering V-neck to draw the eye upward. This can help you create an illusionary effect that elongates the body in just a few simple steps. To do this, you don’t actually need any previous sewing experience.

Add an Off-Shoulder Ruffle to a T-Shirt
You can reinvent any ordinary shirt of yours and turn it into a more spiffy version by simply adding a ruffle to the neckline.

Turning a Manly Shirt into a Child’s Dress
Turn all your old or unused men’s button-up shirts into super cute, easy-to-make dresses for your growing little girls, or a fun baby shower gift made with love.

How to Cut & Tie the Sides of a T-Shirt for Kids
Do you have a favourite old shirt that is way too big but you just can’t give it up? Even if you don’t know a thing about sewing, you can cut and tie the sides of oversized shirts to fit your kids in no time at all.

Is Your Hair Damaged? Here Are Five Quick Ways To Restore It

Damaged hair is an unpalatable experience and the only thing that comes to your mind is to restore your hair to its full glory as soon as possible. If you happen to have your hair damaged, this is how to repair damaged hair with inexpensive at-home tricks, the easy way.

Repair With An Avocado
Here’s how to repair damaged hair with a common fruit you most likely have in your kitchen. Mash a ripe avocado with one egg, then apply this home remedy to wet hair.

Avocados are rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals that will help restore luster to your dry hair. Leave on for at least 20 minutes, then rinse several times. Repeat once a week for damaged hair and once a month for healthy hair.

Massage Butter In
Tsreat dry, brittle hair with a small amount of butter for a glossy shine. Massage it into your dry hair, then cover your hair with a shower cap for about a half hour. Shampoo as usual, and rinse all the butter out.

Condition With Olive Oil
Put the moisture back into dry hair by warming up half a cup of olive oil, and then rubbing it into your hair. Cover with a plastic bag, then wrap everything in a towel. Allow your homemade repair work its thing for 45 minutes, then shampoo and completely rinse.

Rinse With Tea
You may think of tea as a remedy for sore throat, but you can also use it to give dry hair a natural shine. Use a quart of warm, unsweetened tea (freshly brewed or instant) as a final rinse after your regular shampoo.

Tea can enhance hair colour, so make sure to use a tea that works with your hair colour.

Use An Apple Cider Vinegar Mask
Put the life back into your limp or damaged hair with this terrific home remedy. Combine 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons olive oil and 3 egg whites, then rub the mix into your dry hair. Keep your hair covered for about a half hour using plastic wrap or a shower cap, then shampoo and rinse.

Five Of The Worst Things You Can Do To Your Hair

$
0
0

Your hair is a delicate part of your body and there are certain habits that can affect your strands negatively; resulting in you losing your luscious locks. Here are five of the worst things you can do to your hair and quick fixes that can help you recover it’s glory.

Brushing Your Wet Hair
Wet strands are not only heavier, but more elastic and delicate, so stretching it out with your brush will cause the strands to break.

Instead, brush your hair before you step in the shower. Giving your hair a nice detangle before you get it wet will help you avoid detangling afterwards.

Once you’re out, use a brush created specifically for detangling gentle, wet hair, like the Wet Brush. They are gentler on your locks and are specifically made to not break, pull, or damage your strands whether it’s wet or dry.

Rough-drying With A Bath Towel
A lot of people are used to taking a towel to their whole body immediately after hopping out of the shower. But that should be avoided.

Instead of aggressively tousling your locks, twist it up in a nice, not-too-tight towel-turban. This you can do upside down, rightside up—whichever way you’re comfortable with. The idea is to get the moisture out of your hair.

Washing Your Hair Often Or Not Enough
Washing your hair more than you need to can strip away the natural oils that keep it healthy, making it more brittle and prone to breaking.

On the other hand, the trend washing less and less often is catching on, but following it can cause the pores on your scalp to become congested from excessive oil, which will attract even more dirt and debris.

The best thing to do is to reduce the number of times you shampoo to three to four times a week. In between shampoos, soak up oil with a light coat of dry shampoo on your roots and use a bristle brush to distribute hair oils from root to tip for extra natural shine and conditioning.

Rinsing with Hot Water
The damage done by this is similar to that caused by flat irons and hair dryers. If you think it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to put in your hair.

You can make use of hot but not steaming water to rinse out your shampoo. This allows your hair cuticles to open up and ensures your strands are clean from the inside out.

However, the minute you condition, rinse with cold water to seal the cuticle closed. This adds a healthy shine that will last until your next wash.

Applying Conditioner From The Roots
When applying conditioner, it’s best to start at the midshaft of your hair toward the ends. The ends of the hair are the oldest, meaning they’ve been on your head the longest, contain the least amount of moisture, and are the most dead, so this is the area that needs the most conditioning.

Using the right amount of conditioner is important. The amount you need depends on the length, thickness and texture of your hair, so be sure to ask your stylist the correct amount you should be using.

Do You Have Thinning Hair? Here Are Five Rules You Should Never Break

$
0
0

If you are one of those struggling with thinning hair, there are a number of rules you should stick to as failing to do so can accelerate your hair problems. Here are a number of health-boosting hacks that can give your locks the fuel they need to grow.

Be Wary Of Heat
Be careful not to set your hot tools on “scorch.” anything above 300 degrees fahrenheit setting is definitely too high for finer hair. Your hair needs a lower setting, otherwise it can fry and break.

Use a Weekly Treatment Mask
If you have fine and thin hair, it is best for you to deep-condition once a week, as this will help fill in damaged areas and make hair appear thicker.

Try any mask that is formulated with jojoba seed oil to strengthen and repair tresses, and others loaded with strand-loving omega fatty acids and antioxidants, including vitamins A and C.

Keeps Strands Clean
If you are one of those people with finer locks, it is essential for you to make really good friends with shampoo, because hair can look thinner when it’s greasy.

Thickening Shampoo that is formulated with a trio of ingredients—qmilch fibre, framboise extract, and konared coffee berries to make hair look and feel thicker is also recommended. Dry Shampoo, is great for absorbing oil and adding volume to roots.

Use Conditioner Sparingly
If you have limp locks, there is no need for you to weigh them down by dumping conditioner all over your head. It is best to use a little conditioner only on the ends, which tend to be drier.

Keep Up With The Cuts
Consider making an appointment for a trim every six to eight weeks to keep hair healthier and fuller-looking. You can also ask your stylist to avoid over-layering.

You want the shape to look thicker, especially on the ends, because too much layering does the opposite.

Take Advantage of Products
If you have fine hair, products are your secret weapon. Volumizers help create lift and movement at the root. For a bouncy blowout, it is best to elevate each section and blasting each lock with cool air to set the style for maximum volume. A little back combing on the roots works if you need even more lift.

Five Night Time Habits You Never Knew Is Ruining Your Hair

$
0
0

The way you attend to your hair right before you sleep could be getting in the way of you having and keeping healthy, luscious hair. Your night time habits by no small means, can determine if your locks will begin to thin out or not.

You Skip Brushing
Brushing your hair before bed can promote a healthier mane. Your scalp produces natural oils, and brushing when your locks are dry distributes them through your strands.

Running that natural oil through your locks before bed helps stimulate the scalp and hair follicle to promote hair growth. More so, brushing is relaxing, so it could help you drift off to sleep.

You Use Cotton Sheets
Silk is gentler than cotton, meaning it won’t be as rough on your hair when you lay your head on your pillowcase. There’s no friction when it’s rubbing against the strands, and it helps with frizz and getting your strands stuck as your hair rubs back and forth. Get yourself a silk pillowcase for a great sleep and even better locks.

Sleeping With Wet Hair
Your hair is at its weakest when it’s wet, which is why going to bed right after you shower could cause damage and split ends.

Rubbing on the sheets at night when your locks are wet can make the cuticle ends rough up, which makes them frizzy and dry. If you shower at night, make sure you dry them up, or you braid it before going to sleep.

Packing It Up
During certain times, a topknot can preserve your style from the day before, but tying your locks in a tight bun or ponytail can damage your strands.

If you wear your hair up in the same place all day or every night while sleeping, that hair tie will stay in the same place and cause breakage. If you can’t stand to leave your hair down, try sleeping in braids, which are easier on the hair and will create pretty waves, she says.

Using A Tie
If you do decide to keep your hair up, don’t use a tight elastic. Elastic, especially when your strands are wet, will make a crease, and may cause damage within the crease.

Inspired by the idea of newness, fresh starts and bright beginnings, Aremo presents OJUMO.

A debut collection that celebrates the idea of youth and meets the demands of a modern wardrobe. The collection is dotted with simple, easy, affordable but interesting, changeable silhouettes that fits and fulfill the needs of men who want to make subtle but remarkable statements with their clothes.

Every piece has been designed to stand alone, complement other pieces in the collection and most importantly complement wardrobe essentials of our target man, such that he has enough to transform from day, right into evening, or casual, straight into corporate.

The collection comes alive with whimsical prints that have not just been reinterpreted, but reborn through the age long Adire eleko dying technique. Prints come alive with depth of meaning, strong symbols and tasteful allocation that identifies with the style needs of the Aremo man. The colours remind us of a warm resort, rich with earthy tones of reds, blue terracotta beige and yellow.

Aremo champions the idea of tradition, royalty and heritage. It is the diffusion line of the Menswear brand, Josh Amor which prides itself in the bespoke curation of tastefully crafted suits, tuxedos, pants and shirts for the discerning man.

I Just Need A Sapphire Scent, Nothing More – By Lawal Ayomipo

Yesterday I and my guy; Nobs, went out to do what we like to do sometimes: products hunting. Boom! Colognes- in a minute we were driving around bumping to Eldee’s big boy!

After much deliberations on which store to pop up at, we ended up driving to the Lennox mall which is off admiralty way to see what Saphhire Scents had to offer. After all, we needed to know whether the social media buzz was just a floating hype or actually a set reality.

Get a seat Peeps! Because you might just be blown away just like we were when we stepped in. With a camera in hand and Nobs being his usual jolly sef (trust me: he is a cracker ball all the time!), we strolled in and got our eyes feasting straight away. The intricate setting coupled with a scent that practically made us feel like we were transported to a garden of flowers (guess the diffusers gets the credit for that)

We got schooled on the different colognes and you should know i definitely would get you on board. The store had 20 different colognes and oils which last up to 24 hours and more.  They are:

  • Opulence
  • Sapphire Number 5
  • Epiphany
  • Grandeur
  • Jagaban
  • 48 hours
  • GQ
  • De ja vu
  • Oud Magnifique
  • Coffee
  • Symphony
  • Ivy
  • Ace
  • Ruby
  • Salsa
  • Arewa
  • Desire
  • Enigma
  • Goddess
  • Chocolate

Fun fact; did you know perfume oils last longer than perfume sprays. Specifically, perfumes oils can last for up to 48 hours. Amazing stuff right?

Favorites? Personally, i was torn between enigma and Jagaban. I really liked enigma because of the notes which were; amber, oud, citrus and vanilla.  I liked jagaban because i mean, why else? i’m a jagaban (well in my head). It wasn’t so strong, so it was great for those moments of “real men move in silence”. I ended up getting the 3ml jagaban oil for 10,000 Naira, which was coincidentally their best seller and oh! Epiphany. The best part, was when i woke up this morning and i could still smell the cologne on the shirt i wore yesterday and that’s pretty awesome stuff.

Nobs spotted some scented beard oils (as a member of the beard gang) and actually bought it for 15,000 Naira.

Rate the experience? Can i give it a ten? Hahaha! My experience in all honesty was a good one. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and answered most of the questions we had. The ambiance inside the store was fantastic, very easy to locate, great prices, great products. Ill definitely recommend sapphire scents to anyone who is interested in standing out when you step out.

I almost forgot, did i mention the perfume and perfume oils were all unisex? Looking for a great gift for him (or her) you should visit their store.

Kamsi TCharles Presents S/S19 Collection Titled Church Science

Nigerian fashion designer Kamsi TCharles lingers his love affair with African prints, traditional patterns and textiles in his Spring Summer 2019 men’s collection titled “Church Science.”
The collection references the manner with which the western world has long been a hub of influence for religion, ethics and fashionable trends in Africa, and is often perceived as the adoption of the elements of the dominant culture by members of the minority culture.
“Church Science collection, (the designer explained), is about how the Europeans made us disregard our beliefs, values and dress cultures. How today we (Africans) dress like the western world, sound like them and feel more religious than they are without corresponding development because we have failed to realize that religion is more of an art than science.”
The outstanding designs from the collection appeals to those willing to take a risk with their personal sense of style, and not only echo with Africans but cause a stir with international fashion observers too.
Auspiciously, today, Africa is ever more pertinent to the fashion industry globally. The western world is not only looking to it as a sourcing destination but also as a source of inspiration.

Fashion is a kinetic force like no other and consumers’ growing appetite for fashion ensures direct labour in the fashion value chain have work.

The last one-year has arguably been the fashion industry’s most lucrative when it comes to female empowerment. Ensuring the gains translate to fair wages and economic mobility for women at the lowest rung of the fashion industry must remain top of agenda for ethical fashion enthusiasts.

By joining forces, through Adara x TAN by Tiffany Amber, Adara Foundation and TAN by Tiffany Amber demonstrate how women can join forces to create significant market opportunities for low-income women. The collection features a selection of styles by TAN, which utilizes a delicate blend of modern sophistication and glamour, offered at the right price point. All the textiles used in the collection were painstakingly designed, hand painted and printed by 24 women who as a result of the collaboration are benefiting improved income and hopefully broader markets for their skills and textiles.

Adara Foundation

Through EWARE (Empowering Women in Arts and Related Enterprises), Adara Foundation trains financially challenged women to be skilled artisans, knowledgeable about and able to produce and trade profitably in the best quality adire, tie and dye and batik paint. EWARE women are trained by some of the leading textile artists in Nigeria. Over 200 women have been trained since the program launch in 2017. Adara was founded in 2015 and has impacted over 6,000 families through its skills acquisition development and access to health and education programs.

TAN by Tiffany Amber is the diffusion line of the iconic African lifestyle brand, Tiffany Amber. TAN aims to be more accessible to women and girls across Africa while still carrying the heritage of the anchor brand, Tiffany Amber. TAN mixes a blend of modern designs with the culture and creativity of our fast growing continent by sourcing locally produced inputs and partnering with local and African artists and artisans to deliver fashionable and culturally authentic products.

Tiffany Amber and Adara Foundation share a common goal in deepening the fashion industry in Nigeria by creating a platform for creative fabric design led by women.
